Suriname, officially known as the Republic of Suriname, is a small country located on the northeastern coast of South America. It is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the north, French Guiana to the east, Brazil to the south, and Guyana to the west.

Formerly a Dutch colony, Suriname gained independence in 1975 and has since become a culturally diverse nation with a mix of ethnicities including East Indians, Javanese, Maroons, Amerindians, and Europeans. The country's capital and largest city is Paramaribo.

Suriname is known for its rich biodiversity, with over 90% of its land covered in pristine rainforest. The country's economy is largely dependent on mining, agriculture, and ecotourism. Suriname is also a member of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR).
