Niger (the)
Niger is a landlocked country located in West Africa. It is bordered by Libya to the northeast, Chad to the east, Nigeria and Benin to the south, Burkina Faso and Mali to the west, and Algeria to the northwest. The capital city is Niamey.
Niger is the largest country in West Africa and is predominantly covered by the Sahara desert, with the Niger River running through the southwestern part of the country. The economy is primarily based on agriculture, livestock, and mining.
Niger faces challenges such as poverty, food insecurity, and environmental issues. It has a diverse population comprising several ethnic groups, with Hausa, Zarma-Songhai, and Tuareg being some of the largest.
The country gained independence from France in 1960 and has faced political instability and military coups since then. It is a member of the United Nations, African Union, and Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), among other international organizations.
