Comoros, officially known as the Union of the Comoros, is a sovereign archipelago island nation located in the Indian Ocean off the eastern coast of Africa. The country is composed of three major islands — Grande Comore, Mohéli, and Anjouan — and numerous smaller islands. Comoros is one of the world's smallest countries by land area and population.
The nation gained independence from France in 1975 and has a diverse culture influenced by African, Arab, and French traditions. Comoros has a predominantly Sunni Muslim population and the official languages are Comorian, French, and Arabic.
Comoros has a developing economy with agriculture, fishing, and tourism as the primary sectors. The country faces challenges such as poverty, political instability, and environmental issues due to its vulnerability to climate change and natural disasters.
Comoros is a member of the African Union, the Arab League, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, and the Indian Ocean Commission. The capital city is Moroni, located on Grande Comore.
