Burundi
Burundi is a landlocked country located in East Africa. It is bordered by Rwanda to the north, Tanzania to the east and south, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west. The capital city is Gitega, but the largest city is Bujumbura. With a population of over 11 million people, Burundi is one of the poorest countries in the world. It gained independence from Belgium in 1962.
The country has a tumultuous history of ethnic conflict between the Hutu and Tutsi populations. This conflict has resulted in periods of violence and instability, including a civil war that lasted from 1993 to 2005. Despite efforts to promote peace and reconciliation, tensions between ethnic groups still exist in Burundi.
Agriculture is the mainstay of the economy, with the majority of the population engaged in subsistence farming. Burundi's economy has been heavily reliant on coffee and tea exports, but the country is vulnerable to fluctuations in global commodity prices.
Burundi is known for its beautiful landscapes, including rolling hills, mountains, and lakes. The country is home to diverse wildlife, and it has several national parks and conservation areas that attract tourists interested in ecotourism.
