Tuvalu

Tuvalu

Tuvalu is a Polynesian island country located in the Pacific Ocean. It consists of nine small islands, with a total land area of just 26 square kilometers, making it one of the smallest countries in the world. Tuvalu is situated halfway between Hawaii and Australia.

The capital of Tuvalu is Funafuti, which is also the largest city in the country. Tuvalu gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1978 and is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations. The country's economy is largely dependent on fishing and remittances from Tuvaluans living abroad.

Tuvalu is known for its stunning coral reefs, lagoons, and white sandy beaches, making it a popular destination for ecotourism. However, the country faces significant challenges due to its low-lying geography, with concerns about rising sea levels and the impact of climate change.

With a population of around 11,000 people, Tuvalu has a unique culture influenced by Polynesian traditions. The people of Tuvalu speak Tuvaluan and English, and the majority of the population are Christian.

Despite its small size and isolation, Tuvalu plays an active role in international affairs, particularly in advocating for action on climate change and environmental issues.
