The United States Minor Outlying Islands are a collection of nine insular areas in the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea that are considered an unorganized, unincorporated territory of the United States. The islands include Baker Island, Howland Island, Jarvis Island, Johnston Atoll, Kingman Reef, Midway Atoll, Palmyra Atoll, and Wake Island, as well as Navassa Island in the Caribbean Sea. These islands are mostly uninhabited, with the exception of a small number of civilian and military personnel that may be present for research or defense purposes. The islands are under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of the Interior and are not part of any U.S. state or territory.
